Skateboard Clothing
Skateboard clothing in the past was closely tied to punk
and surf culture. Both were drastically different styles however, and
they have slowly merged and evolved into many different styles of clothing.
Baggy pants were popular among skaters for a long time, they provided
a good range of movement and are still considered stylish in many circles.
The ever changing nature of fashion has affected skateboarding culture
just as much as other areas.
Skateboard clothing really only needs to have a few requirements. They
need to be durable and have a plenty of freedom of movement. Durability
is probably the most important attribute for clothing, if it wears out
too soon it is just not going to be worn. Skating easily causes more
wear and tear than other activities with the pants being the most abused. This is true for all types, including surf wear, dancewear
Another common feature on the majority of skateboard clothing is plenty
of pockets including the much used stash, or secret, pocket. Skating
in the wrong area can easily get a skater harassed by police and they
have learned to protect their valuables. Roomy pockets can store plenty
of tools, snacks, water and whatever else a skateboarder decides to
pick up or carry with them.
